Significant Projects
Our projects have included the following:

  • Selected as the primary provider of FAC consulting services to Entergy Nuclear
  • SFA Conversions: Over 30 completed SFA conversion projects
  • Power Uprate Studies: Quantification of the effect on FAC of proposed power uprates or other plant modifications at 15 different units over the last 18 months.
  • Support of FAC Manager, FAC software in use at 79 nuclear and 35 fossil units to maintain the program basis, plan and schedule inspections, evaluate UT data, and provide for multi-site information exchange.
  • Assisted LaSalle Station in developing a complete FAC program that was subsequently recognized by INPO as excellent.
  • Restart and ongoing support to Fort Calhoun Station after a steam line rupture.
  • Provided FAC Training to INPO (2010 and 2011 NAT Weeks).
  • Engaged as a FAC Expert Witness for a US nuclear utility to support NRC license amendments and renewals.

Operating Experience: Flow-Accelerated Corrosion (FAC)

  • LaCygne (fossil station): Information about the May 2008 inspections that detected severe wear in a line similar to the failed line at Iatan.
  • Fort Calhoun: Information about the October 2006 Fort Calhoun Extraction Steam Piping Holes (inside condenser).
  • Mihama: Links to information about the Mihama FAC rupture. A FAC rupture in a condensate line at Mihama-3 killed five and injured seven.
